Imagine if all the graves were trees…
Then all the graveyards would be forests.
Have you ever thought that the body, once left, is probably best used to feed the earth it came from, feed the new, feed what comes after?
There are many layers to today’s episode (you’re not surprised, are you). Yes, it’s partly about death and decay…but it’s just as much about growth and ripening.
We discuss what it means to devour life, touch on reincarnation, dive deep into the lyrics of this song and, quite simply, explore what the heck this whole life this is about.
So here you have it, another simple offering from my heart to yours.

The podcast is wonderful. I am surrounded by the cycles of nature. Every June, within 48 hours of the Summer Solstice, a snapping turtle lays her eggs in our lawn. Last year, I tried a photography experiment, taking the same photo once a week from the melting of the snow, through the annual spring flood, and well into the fullness of summer. I did not continue through to autumn, which I regret. I am contemplating exposure as the method of disposition of my remains. At least that way, I feed somethings else and I don’t waste real estate.

“I am contemplating exposure as the method of disposition of my remains”. I am so with you on this one. Did you ever go back to taking the photos? Would love to see the results some time. Sorry for the delayed reply, happy to be finding this now though, a little gift from the past ?
Excellent and poignant especially after going to a sofarsounds gig in Oslo last night.
Good to have song before and after – really nice with the 2 versions.
A single and relatively simple theme to base the podcast on worked well.
Good length. Like the editing and discipline of getting a song into 3 minutes, getting a podcast into 30 minutes is good. There are many out there vying for our time and many are too long and rambling.
Nice one! When are you coming to Norway?
Hey Andy! Lovely to hear from you, thanks for taking the time to comment! Nice to know that you enjoy the length and content of the podcast! My big worry is that I’ll run out of topics when I run out of original songs to base the episodes on! Hopefully, with feedback from people like you, I’ll keep having fresh ideas for things to talk about .
I would so love to come to Norway! Maybe one day you can help me organise a little house concert there so I can afford the flight to come over?
Anyway, stay in touch, hope you enjoy future episodes!
A-ma-zing!!!! Oh. My. Goodness.
This episode is SO in tune with where I am right now! Heaven knows I’ve always wanted a twin, so God has a pretty awesome sense of humor. So several years later and that of a completely different race comes Nate Maingard!
I JUST finished reading a positive.news story about protests and crafting, and I listen to this podcast and you too are discussing protests and your frustration!!
I thought your song “In The Shadows” was one of my favorite songs from you, but now I think “I Will Devour” will replace the #1 spot!!
FYI, I’m currently compiling a Spotify playlist of my friends and my favorite songs, and both of your song are included.
Sincerely,
Marlon Jones
Lovely to hear from you as always, Marlon! Amazing how things link up! nice to know you enjoyed this episode too, I wasn’t sure it would resonate with folk. Awesome, time to get busy with the next one!

I don’t know if you’re still listening. Did you find the shift to a mix of song-based and conversation-based episodes to be jarring? Hope you still enjoy Getting Naked With Nate ?
